Ways to help
Ways to help
If you wish to help our work there are a number of ways to do that.

1. By Donation.
We have a PayPal account and you can donate now by clicking the button below.
If you have any questions regarding making a donation please contact our Treasurer, Adrian Phillips on adrian@teddingtonhouse.co.uk

2. Fostering
Our foster carers are a significant and important aspect of the way we manage our rescue activities and it is these volunteers which allow us to provide a flexible and cost effective method of caring for dogs which are waiting to be found a new permanent home.
By placing dogs with foster homes, rather than being in kennels, we believe that there is less stress for the rescued dog who is kept in an environment in which they can be assessed and nurtured before being found their new home. Often our carers will have their own dogs and sharing a home with other dogs is a good way of re-acclimatising some of our rescues back into that environment.
The sort of things we would be looking for in prospective foster homes are very similar to the criteria you may have read on the ‘re-homing’ page;
Experience.
- Do you currently have/or previously homed Salukis?
- If not Salukis, do you currently, or have you in the past, homed your own dogs and if so which breeds?
- Do you have any experience with ‘troubled’ dogs?
Environment.
- Do you have a garden or suitable outdoor area?
- Is this area securely enclosed (6′ walls / fences are preferred)
- Is there a safe, secure area where the dog can be left unattended? (Is there space for a dog crate?)
- Do you have any other pets, and how comfortable would they be with a strange dog appearing in their home?
- How are your neighbours? Would they be OK with a dog that possibly for time howled or barked?
Lifestyle.
- How long would the dog need to be on its own each day?
- How often would you be able to walk the dog?
- Do you have your own transport? Can you only travel a certain distance?
- Would you be comfortable with a dog which caused disturbance to your home or routine?
We would like to stress that these are not defined yes/no criteria for assessing a prospective foster home, however, these are a guide for you in the sort of considerations we would have.
Unfortunately, we cannot pay you for being a foster carer, however, we would provide you with a daily allowance to cover food and other costs, and would take care of any out of pocket expenses related to the care of the dog.
If you feel you would like to help us by becoming one of our foster homes then in the first instance please contact one of our Welfare Wardens (their numbers are on the contact page) and we would be most happy to discuss it with you.

3. Transportation
The Saluki Welfare does not have centrally located kennels or a van and so we rely on supporters to transport dogs for us.
Our rescued Salukis need to be moved from their initial location to their volunteer foster carer and occasionally between carers. Sometimes this involves just a short local trip, but we transport dogs all over the country and sometimes we need to move a dog from one end of the country to the other.
If you think you could help us by transporting a newly rescued Saluki, or one that is on it’s way to its new home then do please get in touch.
In the first instance please contact one of our Welfare Wardens who will be pleased to add you to our list of transport helpers and you can help us get that rescued Saluki on its way. Even if you can only offer transport for a short distance it may just help us to setup a relay so we can get that Saluki where it needs to be.
We can’t pay you for your services, but we will reimburse you for your costs.
Feel free to get in touch to ask us any questions you may have if you feel you can help us with this important task.

4. Fund raising
It is a reality that in order to do the work we do it is imperative for us to raise the funds to allow us to continue. If you think you can help us to raise funds then we would be grateful for your efforts.
If, for example, you are holding a fete or event and would like to offer some of our products for sale on a stall we would be glad to provide them.
If you are organising an event and would like us to come along (we’ll obviously be happy to bring some dogs with us) then please get in touch and discuss with us what you are planning and how you think we can help.
A sponsored dog walk, a doggy bring and buy, a coffee and dog biscuits morning……… whatever you think of doing if you can do it to help raise funds for us we’d be glad to talk to you and see if we can help.
To discuss your fund raising idea please contact our Secretary: davidcrane@salukiwelfare.org.uk
